Television is not dead and it won’t be for a very long time. As we increasingly sit down to watch our favorite shows or events on television, we bring with us a smaller screen to interact with our friends and the larger social network. “Television Everywhere” is the battle cry that the television industry has been debating and at yesterday’s 4A’s transformation conference, were lamenting the fact that it is still not taking hold. As Adage reported here the consumer experience is “awful.”
One thing the panel did agree on is that sports is the last remaining “appointment” viewing. I’d argue that it’s also the most important “event” viewing because we tend to watch sports events with others and that elevates the experience, making the commercials even more important, shareable and likeable.
